Old Cottage Renovation

When was the work done?
The work was completed toward the end of 2006.

What was involved?
I had bought a rundown 130 year old cottage that needed to be completely gutted and started from scratch. It was a listed building so none of the outside structural work could be modified but the interior of the cottage was a different matter. It needed a new roof, interior walls, floors, plumbing and electrics. New everything, really. There was also an old extension that needed to be taken down and another built in its place. It would have been easier to tear the whole cottage down and start over but being a listed building, that wasn't an option.

How did you choose PJB Construction Ltd?
My sister told me about them. I had already spoken to several builders about the project but chose PJB Construction because they sounded like they really knew what they were talking about.

Had you definite ideas in mind before you talked to Philip Brown?
I did, yes. I had worked with an architect who drew up 3 possible designs. Philip and I discussed the various options and chose one.

Did Philip introduce new ideas?
They not only had a lot of good ideas and suggestions, they were able to detect several issues in construction that the architect hadn't picked up on.

How did the project run?
Fantastic. Before the work even started, Philip and I sat down and discussed the step by step process the work would take from start to finish. Everything from scheduling, project length and what to expect every step of the way was documented and easy to understand. I always knew what was going on.

What was the biggest benefit to you of using PJB Construction Ltd?
The biggest benefit to me was the fact that they are such perfectionists. Not only was the quality of the work excellent but the job was completed on time and on budget. There were no hidden costs or surprises.

What's your favourite part now?
The fact that the cottage has been brought up to modern standards but still retains its characteristics and charming old feel.

Would you recommend PJB Construction Ltd to others?
I've already recommended them to my brother who is currently using them and thrilled with the work.
