Dry Rot and Wet Rot
Moisture in a building can cause significant knock on problems such as dry rot and wet rot. In either case, the solution will involve identifying and curing the root cause of the attack, as well as renewing affected timbers.

Dry Rot |
Dry rot is a fungal disease that causes timber to become brittle and crumble into powder. It is far more serious than wet rot and if not treated will produce spores which are airborne and in the right conditions can spread to other parts of your home.
The photos show examples of dry rot at different stages.

Wet Rot |
Unlike dry rot, wet rot does not spread rapidly through a building. It is basically the timber decaying naturally in the presence of high levels of moisture. Again the solution is to identify and cure the causes of the moisture and renew any damaged wood.
The gallery shows various examples of wet rot.
