Rising Damp
Rising damp is a common cause of damp in buildings, It is caused by water from the ground soaking into the floors and walls of the house. It should be prevented by a "damp proof course" at ground level, but this maybe be absent in older houses or may have broken down. This problem can be successfully remedied with the best solution ultimately depending on the specific construction of your house.
