Small Urban Garden

This garden was a real design challenge both because of its narrowness and the slope. It required 13 steps to get from the lowest level to the top and 5 separate walking and sitting levels.

Our clients were keen entertainers and a large patio area accessible from the rear living area was a must for them. We recommended against a lawn due to the lack of sunlight throughout the day. Instead a warm Chinese granite slab was used to make an otherwise quite stark garden friendlier.

The beds were raised in order to keep the often windy garden tidy. The walls, capped with cedar wood, supplied plenty of seating for a large number of guests. The planting was mostly evergreen to cheer the dark winter months but with plenty of splashes of colour throughout the year.
